About Us

My name is Richard Harris and I’m the inventor of the LuvSeat and President of the Compass Institute. I’m frequently asked about the history of the product and how it came to be.

A few years ago I blew out my knee playing a pick up game of basketball. Yes, at the age of 62 I should have known better, but I’ve always been active. As a result of the injury, I found making love on a flat surface, such as a bed, to be both painful for me and frustrating for my wife and I.

We tried all the conventional furniture and found that everything was too low, too high, or too uncomfortable. I searched the internet for a better answer and asked orthopedic surgeons and physical therapists for suggestions.

As time went by, I quickly learned that no good solution existed, and thus an idea was born to develop the perfect solution

Concept

As a first step (drawing on our respective MBAs and 30 years of health care experience), my wife and I put together a “concept” paper outlining the functions that our new     Adjust vertically over the height of 95% of men standing

-    Permit the man to sit while straddling the seat

-    Be comfortable for both partners sitting face to face

-    Seatback must adjust so the woman can be sitting or lying

-    Be easily and quickly disassembled and stored under a bed

Design Process

Every one of the industrial design firms we sent the concept paper to invited us in to chat – a reinforcement of the true potential for the product (design firms get a lot of unsolicited concepts that they never respond to).

We chose Artisent  (www.artisent.com) because they had a vision that we liked, had experience with wheelchair and furniture design and the chemistry with the founder/owner David Rogers was encouraging.  Artisent did a quantity of biomechanical measurements and analyses, reviewed existing ergonomic studies and did a number primary studies as well and devised several innovative designs. We posted several on a web site and asked viewers for feedback.  We received a wide range of feedback, but on balance it was positive. We even received a few orders - even though the product didn’t  exist yet!

Prototype and Production

Many designs modifications and prototypes later, we had a final product design (for which we have received a patent) that was ready to go to market. Our first small batch sold out quickly to rave reviews.  Based on customer feedback and with input from Harvard Medical School physicians, other wellness providers and engineers we continued to tweak the design and add models and accessories. We are now using two Asian firms to manufacture our products, and they too have added value to the product.

Future

We’ve received substantial feedback from customers suffering from orthopedic problems, obesity and other debilitating conditions that confirmed the value of the Luvseat.  To confirm this anecdotal evidence, we’ve asked leading physicians from Harvard University and other clinicians to study our product and make scientific conclusions about its benefits. To date, all of the results have been positive After years of research, product testing, and a tireless devotion to producing a quality product, we’re proud to present the Luvseat as it exists today. Thousands of couples have purchased and enjoyed it, and many have thanked us for bringing less painful love-making back into their lives.  It is our mission to invent and offer “Innovations for Intimacy” for all intimate couples.  Stay tuned!!

Best wishes and goodlovemaking

Richard Harris
